I live among the rocks and sand

Far away in regions of arid land

My ears are quite enormous I am told

Six inches long and a sight to behold

They help me track my prey

An alert me if enemies are at bay

I might be small but I’m fast and quick

I can dig sand with speed when I kick

I travel at night hunting when food is plenty

To find a tasty morsel of insects, rodents,

I might find two or maybe even twenty

Jumping high in a mouse like leap

I catch my prey with my front feet

Water is sometimes hard to find

So plant roots is what I have in mind

Endangered and threatened by humankind

I stay my distance and with ears alert

I survive another day unhurt

Nature's Wonder

A beauty of nature in every way

Near serene blue water and ponds

A vision that swims most everyday

With a quack sound he responds.

He primps and cleans

Parting each feather in between

A miracle of nature you will agree

His colors are amazing a sight to see

He is a blaze of orange, green and red

With bold stripes of black and white

Scattered about his small soft head

They are a natural to this land

Somewhere in China and around Japan

Europe was introduced in years gone by

So they are now abundantly free to fly

Their nest is high in the trees

When they hatch they all fall free

A rainbow of colors much more than three

His wings like sails, held high above

A sight to see I will never tire of

I stood in awe and was amazed

Such a graceful duck in many ways

The Farmer Boy

I live on a farm

In a yellow house with a barn

Each morning I wake with the bright of day

I rush to dress

So I could quickly go out to play

I chase the chickens around the house

And sometimes I even see a field mouse

I’m just too small to do the big guy stuff

So I would help my dad if it wasn’t too tough

The best part of the day for me

Is petting my horse I call Sunny

A carrot or two was his treat from me

He is so beautiful when wild and free

Someday when I’m bigger I’ll jump on and ride

Me and dad together riding side by side

But for now a worn tire hung on a tree

Is all the riding I do while Sammy watches me

Living near the open field and the midnight air

Makes me happy, satisfied, without a care

Dad and I go fishing everyday at the lake

He teaches me fishin so I don’t make a mistake

Lifes good for me and I’m happy to be

A farmers boy who can just run free

In the flower garden

Deep in the brush

A fluffy brown rabbit

Somewhat in a rush

With beautiful ears so proud and tall

Hippity Hoppying around

Like a colorful ball

You weigh seven pounds or maybe above

But the more there is, the more to love

Those big brown eyes so curious and alert

Your little nose twitches as you dig in the dirt

Here and there you’re on the move

A vegetable, a flower you might remove

You are as quiet as a mouse

On alert for the farmer running out his house

Better hurry and be oh so quick

Times a wastin and there’s lots to pick

You would think he would be happy

Making room for him to plant

But everyday I see him rave and rant

With my brown tail, ears and feet

If he’s a coming I’ll scurry and leap

But when my little belly is full

And I just can’t eat, tug or pull

I sit under the old shade tree

My puppy is so cute

He really brings me joy

A fish of gold it may be,

Chipper (My Angel)

This is a Pet Portrait I did of my dog Chipper ( Papillion) who has crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge. Feisty as he was beautiful, he will always be in my heart. This is my dedication to the little companion I was blessed with for thirteen years.

Animals teach us in a variety of ways about behavior, habit, and instinct.

House pets embody an unconditional love that remains unchanged in the face of our shape, size, age, race, or gender. They care little for the differences between us and them and simply enjoy loving and being loved.

Our pets encourage us to let our guards down, have fun, and take advantage of every opportunity to enjoy life. You can also learn lessons from the animals you encounter if you take the time to observe their habits. Animals show us adaptability and sensitivity to one’s environment.

Mammals serve as examples of nurturing and playfulness. Animals that live in oceans, lakes, and rivers demonstrate the value of movement and grace. It is even possible to learn from insects that live in highly structured communities that everyone plays a vital role.

Animals teach us about life, death, survival, sacrifice, and responsibility. If you find yourself drawn to a particular animal, ask yourself which of its traits you find most intriguing and think about how you might mimic those traits. Think of what you might learn from observing the little bird on your windowsill or the mosquito buzzing around a picnic table.

Animals express themselves with abandon, freedom, and integrity. It’s natural to be drawn to the wisdom offered by our animal teachers, and in doing so, discover what is natural and true within you.

I’m a Big Girl now and ready to ride

A cowgirl of sorts high energy inside

My horse is white and loves me so

He will take me on trails high and low

I know I can ride Mom taught me well

I feel the excitement in me swell

I'm An Angel Now

One night I cried to Jesus as I sat beneath the trees.

I looked into the open sky and hoped He'd answer me.

I'm lost dear Lord. I've traveled far but still I seam to roam.

Please light the way and lead me, Lord. I need to get back home.

I told him of my burdens and of the sadness in my heart-

That from His gracious love I'd never felt so far apart.

Why did you take my child, Lord? I cannot understand!

No longer can I touch her face or hold her tiny hand.

I'm angry, Lord. I'm missing her. I'm drowning in my sorrow.

Please help to heal my yesterdays and face each new tomorrow.

It was then I heard her gentle voice and I felt her presence near.

How I wanted so to hold her as I cried another tear.

She said, "Mommy, "I 'm an angel now, my spirit will be free.
